ALPHA DOG HITS BLU-RAY

Lingering without a Blu-Ray release for 3 years, Nick Cassavetes Alpha Dog will finally be release in Hi Def on July 13, 2010. Based on the true story of the kidnapping and murder of Nicholas Markowitz, the film centers around a young middle class drug dealer and the social dynamics that contribute to the heinous crime.

Bruce Willis, Sharon Stone, Emile Hirsch, and Justin Timberlake make up part of the star studded cast that takes an unflinching look at violent "group think" behavior. The film is like a car crash on the highway - you just can't look away.

THE SHINING: 30TH ANNIVERSARY

Redrum, redrum... the Shining hits 30th, featured on AMC this month. Based on a novel by one of the great masters of horror, Steven King, and directed by Stanley Kubrick, the film stars Jack Nicholson as the tortured writer Jack Torrance.

Taking a job as caretaker of a palatial hotel the becomes snowbound during winter, Jack descends into madness attempting to murder his wife (Shelly Duval) and son (Danny Lloyd).

Though now considered a Kubrick classic, King did not receive the film well, and felt the casting of Nicholson a mistake. King re-adapted the novel in 1997 for a TV movie that was rather unimpressive to critics and audiences.

Filled with haunting imagery, and terrifying supernatural evil, the diabolic horror of the Shining will stand the hairs on the back of your neck in ways that only Steven King and Stanley Kubrick can.

DEADGIRL

Every now and then you hear stories about the night janitor at the morgue stuffing a stiff. I can't imagine that necrophilia would be any fun - I mean, if I wanted someone cold, that just laid there, I'd still be with my ex. Despite the apparent shortcomings of necrophilia, Deadgirl is a delightfully perverse twist on the zombie genre.

When two teens discover an undead girl chained up in a derelict mental institution, she becomes their own personal sex slave. This disturbing film poses challenging questions of morality, and plays not as a post apocalyptic zombie nightmare, but a complex character study.

Jenny Spain plays the dead girl, spending most of the film completely naked, slowly decaying and suffering the hellish abuse of the hormonal high schoolers. Enough is enough, and one of the boys decides to set her free... but that's not such a good idea - She is a zombie after all and likes to bite.

True to the zombie lore, her bite is infectious, and lets just say she's not the girl that you want giving you oral pleasure.

This shocking film builds organically, stacking on the tension scene after scene in a dark and frightening experience that will haunt you for days after watching. This is a hidden gem, and one of my recent favorites.

TWILIGHT: NEW MOON

Kristen Stewart has 3 speeds in this movie: bothered, more bothered, and super emo-kid bothered. Her nuanced performance consists of a single response to every line, which is: blink, furrow brow, look down, sigh, speak. If I were Edward, I would have left her a long time ago - not that Edward has heaping spoonfuls of personality either. Don't get me wrong, Kristen Stewart is hot in that barely legal kind of way, but even that didn't ease my suffering.

I get the appeal for teen girls, romance starved housewives and gay men - Taylor Lautner rips his shirt off every chance he gets (if I had abs like that, I would too). But for those of us who don't fall into the aforementioned category, the "saga" is, well... beyond retarded.

In this edition, the unthinkable happens - Edward breaks up with Bella. To say that she doesn't take the news well is an understatement. Bella spends the better part of the film in a state of serious depression. When she's not staring out a window like a zombie, or screaming from nightmares, she's acting out in dangerous ways - it's the only way she can't get visions of Edward to appear.

I can't help but wonder how many teen girls will emulate this reckless behavior and actually get injured by acting out when they get dumped by their boyfriends. Doesn't this series have more responsibility to portray Bella as en empowered teen instead of a suicidal co-dependant?

Bella's friendship with Jacob grows throughout the film, and of course she is forced to choose between Team Edward & Team Jacob - though it's not really much of a choice. I personally choose Team Blade - where is Wesley Snipes when you need him?

SANDRA BULLOCK SEX TAPE?

Sandra Bullock puts the rumors of an alleged sex tape to rest:

"There is no sex tape!" She says to PEOPLE on Tuesday. "There never has been one, and there never will be one!"

Oh well, the speculation was fun while it lasted.
